William J. Stuart Jr. won his $1 million prize playing the “$2,000,000 50X Cashword” $10 scratch-off game. The ticket looks like a filled-in crossword puzzle, and the player scratches to see what letters they receive. The more words the player can unveil, the more they win.

Stuart says he and his wife love crossword puzzles and the crossword lottery tickets.

Stuart chose to take the lump sum payment of $650,000 (before taxes) rather than the annuity.

He bought the winning ticket at Girlies Variety at 96 Oak St. in Taunton. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for the sale.
